HONORS



Honors
 

By participating in Honor’s English 11/12 in Humanities, you will have the opportunity to take part in an in-depth study of concepts and skills addressed in Core, as well as coursework beyond the assigned curriculum. Additionally, after completion of all Honors work while earning a C or above for the Fall semester, you become eligible for an increase of one GPA point in English 11/12.  Honors is a rigorous pursuit and a serious commitment; proceed wisely.

Read and annotate Nathaniel Hawthorne's The Scarlett Letter.
Reading Schedule:
"The Custom House" Optional (an author's introduction; interesting but not essential reading)
Chapters 1-2 due week of Sept. 19th-23rd
Chapters 3-9 due week of Oct. 10th-14th
Chapters 10-16 due week of Nov. 14th-18th
Chapters 17-24 due week of Dec. 5th-9th

Written work:

To be assigned.

Additional written work examining ideas and themes in The Scarlett Letter and course content.


Final Paper:
After consultation with your teacher, write a formal paper on Nathaniel Hawthorne's The Scarlett Letter examining a major theme in the novel.
