WHAT DO YOU DO IN ART 1?
Art 1 - World Influences
IS A ONE YEAR ART COURSE and the prerequisite for all
other art courses. Because
knowledge of the basic skills of art is essential to advanced growth, this
course is the least flexible and most important in the entire curriculum. Art I includes three units: (1)
drawing, (2) elements and principles of design, and (3) color. Through these units you will explore a
variety of techniques, media, and methods in an effort to provide you with a
range of experiences. In addition
to art making, it will be necessary for you to read, write, and speak about art.
You will begin to learn how to analyze, interpret and judge artwork. You will also learn how art throughout
the world is influenced by, as well as reflects its culture. This course focuses on, but is not
limited to, artwork from the Renaissance period through the 19th century. There will be at least one written
mid-term and a final and/or project at the end of the year.
